Companies That Use Outsourcing

REASONS WHY COMPANIES OUTSOURCE

Below is a summary of the top reasons why companies outsource.

Labour Cost

The cost of labour in countries outside of the most developed countries is a fraction of what it is inside. If there was a job that could be efficiently outsourced it could easily cost 10 times to 15 times more to keep it in a developed country.

Indirect Costs

When companies outsource they realize the financial savings of a lower salary to be paid out but there is also the benefit of no indirect costs. For example companies that have moved their call center to overseas are no longer paying for the office building, office furniture etc. On top of these savings there are fewer regulatory headaches/costs associated with an outsourced contractor than an in house employee.

Resource Levelling

If you have an organization which goes through peaks and valleys in terms of workload staffing those peaks can be difficult. It typically means you either need to hire and then fire more people or pay a lot in overtime. Outsourcing provides a solution for this problem.
Ability to Focus
Many companies have found the benefit to outsourcing is the ability to free up key talent from doing routine tasks and let them focus on the high value work the organization does.

MOST COMMON JOBS TO BE OUTSOURCED

Virtual Assistants

Many top executives have always had personal assistants to help these important employees be more productive. However, due to outsourcing companies are now able to offer virtual assistants to lower level employees and raise the performance of the entire organization.
For example some large Engineering Procurement Construction and Management (EPCM) companies like Fluor offer virtual assistants to their project managers. These project managers who during peak project work are on the job site for up to 80 hrs/week need all the help they can get. To alleviate this workload companies have turned to virtual assistants who can help not just with on the job related activities but also off the job. This off the job help such as making dinner reservations has reduced some of the stress that comes with these high stress jobs.
The most popular outsourcing destination for virtual assistants is the Philippines due to the strong English skills possessed by many.

Bookkeeping and Tax Preparation

90% of peoples bookkeeping and tax returns are very routine, it is only the last 10% where expert knowledge can save people money. It is for this reason that so much bookkeeping and tax preparation has been outsourced. By outsourcing the routine 90% a Tax expert can increase their productivity by 10x.
The most popular country for exporting bookkeeping and tax preparation to is India.

Web Programming and Design

Thanks to technological advances and outsourcing a website that used to cost $2,500 to $5,000 can be outsourced for $250. This website is an example of a website build using outsourcing.
Because of the online/interconnected nature of web programming and design it is a very easy to integrate outsourced employees into an on-shore team.

Computer Aided Design

If you are looking to get drafting services done it is easy to outsource to a country where these skills are well developed and cost much less than the same service in a more developed country.
In North America hiring a company to do entry level drafting or CAD work can cost between 30-75 $/hour. By outsourcing to India or another country you can get a comparable service for 5-10 $/hr.

The 2 Most Popular Outsourced Jobs
The 2 most typically outsourced services are Call Centers and IT Support both of which are typically outsourced to India for their strong computer and language skills.

LIST OF COMPANIES THAT OUTSOURCE
